Schoolhouse Guitar | Guitar Tuition & Music Theory
Schoolhouse Yard, Bloomfield Rd, SE18 7JD
Based in Woolwich, Schoolhouse Guitar offers face to face or online private guitar instruction, music theory tuition, audition preparation and songwriting workshops for people of all ages and proficiency…
The foundation of our curriculum can be split into three parts (like an ice cream from Naples)
>> Technical Ability
In order to play guitar (like with any other sport) we are gonna have to take your fingers to the gym and get them buff. Instead of lifting weights and gazing into the mirror, we are going to be sitting in a comfortable position and repeating our scales, modes, arpeggios and some of my homemade BBQ finger licking exercises. We have found that repetition is not only the mother of learning but also fantastic for forgetting your troubles, getting out of your head and living in the moment. After all that's what music is all about!
>> Music Theory
We've got some news for you muchachos, music theory is in fact, a right laugh... for without music theory all that technical ability is about as useful as a crystal frisbee in the autumn time. When we start to combine theory with technical ability that's when the magic happens. I have spent the last 20 years collecting the finest worksheets and videos from all over the globe and i'd be more than happy to give you a peak friend. From the degrees of the major scale to the CAGED system we are going to go on a journey that will not only unlock the fretboard but ways of understanding music that can even be transferred to other instruments. "Did I mention i'm a multi-instrumentalist"- you'll say, when nobody asked at the next social function or break time. Yes, all ages are not only welcome but encouraged.
>> Creativity
Self expression, It comes from you and we want to show you how to unleash it. We strongly believe that by taking a slice of time at the end of a lesson to play with what you've learnt, can help it not only stick but also nurture a sense of fun around what we're doing, after all there is no point picking up an instrument if you're not gonna have fun with it. Play time can include sing alongs of your favourite songs, leg drumming, ripping solo's to backing tracks and coming up with bespoke mnemonics... so watch out!
Communication is important, if you want to learn something specific - let us know, if you want some advice about releasing your own music or music production - we've got a first class degree in that shiz. If you want a playlist to jam to or a hot tip on the best open jam nights in the local area, all you have to do is ask pet.
For you Cautious Carols - we offer a no obligation £10 trial lesson to allow you to come along, meet Thomas in Woolwich, compliment him on the cleanliness of his penthouse apartment, have a chat about your guitar goals, look over the course material and basically get you started. Just click the ‘Book Trial’ button at the top of the page and fill in the form and we’ll contact you as soon as we’ve finished practising our scales.
